Marni are the go-to label for unapologetically cool clothes. They’ve eluded the advertising crowd season after season, so it’s a little surprising they’ve chosen now to debut their first ever campaign for autumn/winter 2015. The collection, inspired by the elements, was Consuelo Castiglioni’s ode to the 1940s femme fatale. Yet the conventional blonde bombshell was nowhere to be seen, in fact, the Marni woman looked almost utilitarian with her lean tunic and fur-encased arms. Featuring model Marte Mei Van Haaster, photographed by Jackie Nickerson, whose work mainly focuses on the less glamorous subjects of farm still life and rugged British terrains, the Marni campaign evokes an effortless kind of glamour in a very conceptual environment.

It’s also been a season of many firsts. For example, Miu Miu launched their first fragrance, and Fendi staged their first fur couture show on the Paris schedule. Marni’s foray into the ad campaign territory sheds a light on the importance of visual marketing in fashion. Known as much for their Milanese heritage as they are for their artistic runways, Marni could soon find themselves ruling the campaign trail come spring.
