This season, New York Fashion Week returned with a powerful statement, offering a dynamic blend of heritage and modernity that reaffirmed its status as a global fashion capital. From the energetic streets of Manhattan to the scenic views of Brooklyn, the city buzzed with creativity and an unmistakable sense of style. With the US Open unfolding at the same time, the convergence of high fashion and sports heightened the excitement, creating a dynamic cultural moment in the heart of New York.
From star-studded front rows to innovative collections that pushed the boundaries, here’s a look at the most unmissable moments from NYFW SS25.
Fashion Meets The US Open
The worlds of sport and fashion collided spectacularly this season, with the US Open happening in tandem with New York Fashion Week. Athletes and fashion icons were seen across both events, blurring the lines between performance and style. Olympic stars Jordan Chiles and Noah Lyles took to the runway, showcasing collections with the same energy and confidence they bring to their sport. Chiles brought fierce athletic grace to Kim Shui’s vibrant and eclectic designs, while Lyles made a striking impression on the Willy Chavarria runway, demonstrating how sport and fashion now move in perfect sync.
Meanwhile, Tommy Hilfiger’s front row featured Olympic gymnast Suni Lee and sprinter Gabby Thomas, further highlighting the seamless merging of these two worlds. The presence of these athletes, at both Fashion Week and the courts of the US Open, reinforced how fashion can be both luxurious and functional — dynamic, like the athletes themselves.
Rihanna’s Rare Appearance
One of the week’s most talked-about moments was Rihanna’s appearance at Alaïa’s first New York show in over 40 years. As a global style icon, her presence was a reminder of fashion’s influence across multiple industries. The collection, held in an intimate setting, evoked a sense of timeless elegance with a modern edge, perfectly aligning with Alaïa's historic yet forward-thinking approach to design.
Coach Paid Tribute To The City’s Free-Spirited Essence
Coach once again demonstrated why it is synonymous with New York cool. The SS25 collection was a love letter to the city, capturing its raw, effortless energy. From oversized blazers paired with iconic I♥︎NY shirts and more, the collection embraced the beauty of imperfection and nonchalance. Accessories were playful yet nostalgic — from cassette tapes to doodle-inspired embellishments.
Off-White Pushed Boundaries With Streetwear Luxe
Off-White’s SS25 collection was a visual homage to the brand's roots, late founder Virgil Abloh and its ongoing commitment to innovation. With Brooklyn Bridge Park as its backdrop, the show captured the vibrancy of New York’s streets while elevating sportswear into the realm of high fashion. Bold silhouettes, graphic prints and architectural tailoring were key elements of the collection, continuing the legacy of Virgil Abloh by marrying luxury with everyday wear.
Tommy Hilfiger Married Nautical Inspirations With A Modern Twist
Tommy Hilfiger’s SS25 collection breathed new life into classic American nautical themes. Bold red, white and blue tones featured prominently across trench coats, capri trousers and utility jackets, as Hilfiger reimagined traditional maritime looks with a fresh, modern edge. The show took place aboard the MV John F. Kennedy, a retired Staten Island ferry, adding a sense of nostalgia to the event.
From Paris To New York: Alaïa's Return To The Big Apple
Departing from Pieter Mulier’s comfort zone (that is, Paris Couture Week), the creative director presented Alaïa’s SS25 collection in the atrium of the Guggenheim Museum in New York. The reason? “An obsession with the idea of American Beauty,” according to the show notes. As always, there is a link to heritage, too - founder Azzedine Alaïa presented a collection at the Guggenheim Museum’s original location in 1982. Pioneers of American fashion - namely American couturier Charles James, sportswear trailblazer Claire McCardell and Hollywood costume designer Gilbert Adrian - were referenced throughout the designs, paraded on models as sleek and sophisticated as the surroundings. The underlying theme was liberation and freedom of the body, as evidenced by midriff-baring co-ords and body-loving dresses that were deceptively simple thanks to the Maison’s signature innovation. The final marker of a triumphant return to the Big Apple was a voluminous dress replicating the museum’s iconic spiral staircase.
