Versace's Colourful SS25 Collection Carries A Message Of Joy And Optimism

In her Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Donatella Versace transports us to a radiant world where playful design meets nostalgic charm

Donatella Versace has a remarkable ability to bring joy and exuberance to her collections, offering a refreshing contrast to the often serious tone of fashion week. For the Versace Spring/Summer 2025 show, Donatella took us on a nostalgic journey, reviving one of her beloved 1996 collections from when she helmed Versus, the diffusion line under her brother Gianni’s era.

Nearly 30 years later, Versace recaptured the playful spirit and spontaneity of that collection, reimagining it for today’s fashion world. The result was a radiant, eclectic mix that echoed the carefree exuberance of the 1970s while feeling undeniably modern. This balance of nostalgia and contemporary flair highlights Versace’s ability to stay relevant and forward-thinking in an ever-changing industry.

A standout colour in this collection was periwinkle blue, embodying the theme of light and optimism. As Donatella Versace herself wrote in the show notes: “When there is so much darkness in the world - with this collection, I wanted to bring colour, light, optimism and joy—we have never needed it more!” This sentiment resonated throughout the collection, with delightful shades of pale yellow and lavender that were nothing short of irresistible.

The runway burst to life with bold combinations - zigzag-patterned knitted cardigans clashed with slinky floral skirts, creating a visual feast that captured the eye. The revival of coloured tights, particularly in red, signals a return to bold fashion statements, adding a playful touch to the outfits. Psychedelic prints were everywhere, featuring sets inspired by laid-back pyjama styles, complete with mod haircuts that obscured the models' eyes. Transparency took centre stage with sheer tops and dresses, all paired with eye-catching red tights that added an extra layer of intrigue.

The collection also embraced Western influences, with washed denim, brown leather vests, and suede jackets, all tailored for a contemporary yet alluring cowboy vibe. This incorporation of diverse styles highlights Versace’s mastery in blending different cultural elements, creating a unique narrative that resonates with today's audience.
