Louis Vuitton has brought its travelling exhibition SEE LV to Dubai after stops in Wuhan and Hangzhou in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The maison chose Dubai because of its cosmopolitan nature, innovation and diverse culture. The SEE LV exhibition is now open to the public at the Dubai Mall fountains where it will remain until 7 March.

Media artist Refik Anadol’s portrait of Louis Vuitton greets visitors

Upon entry to SEE LV, guests are greeted by a portrait of young Louis Vuitton created by Turkish media artist Refik Anadol using artificial intelligence. The following room, “In Fashion”, showcases a collection of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear pieces from designers’ first and last collections. The exhibit includes a felt suit from Virgil Abloh’s final Men’s Autumn/Winter 2022 collection as well as an 1893 silk visiting dress crafted by couturier (and Louis Vuitton’s neighbour) Charles Frederick Worth two years before his passing. The opulent gown is displayed alongside a historical 1906 trunk to emphasise the maison’s longstanding relationship with fashion.

A wall of Louis Vuitton’s signature bags makes up “Bags Stories” and includes the Steamer, Speedy, Noé and Twist, as well as the iconic graffiti Keepall created in collaboration with artist Stephen Sprouse.

The final room, “Evolution Gallery”, is dedicated to Louis Vuitton’s major contributions to the invention of luggage typologies and takes visitors on a journey through the maison’s luggage evolution from the 1925 Wardrobe Trunk and 1920s Auto Trunk to the Skateboard trunk that debuted in 2009. The fascinating evolution of Louis Vuitton furniture is also on display.

The exhibition ends with a monogrammed projection which undulates as visitors pass by and – what else? – a gift shop.
