As the Fashion Director of Shopbop, Caroline Maguire’s role includes overseeing the buying for the brand, as well as dictating the editorial look and feel of the website – you could even say, she dictates what we buy.
With Shopbop currently selling more than 1,000 designers to a global audience, who better to get a little last minute shopping advice and inspiration from? Her eagle eye is trained to hone in on new brands and spot trends before anyone else – she is an unquestionable authority on all matters of style.
Hot off celebrating Shopbop’s 20th Anniversary, which also saw the brand launch its first ever pop up, we catch up with the New-York based Caroline Maguire to find out what’s she’s wearing and gifting this festive season…
What are your favourite festive traditions and where do you celebrate Christmas?
Spending time with my family!I am from California and my husband is from New York– each year we alternate cities, so this year we will be home in New York City!
What will you be wearing on Christmas Day?
I love my full skirt from Tibi. I plan to wear this paired with a festive sweater, high socks, and combat boots.
What would be your go-to office-to-party outfit?
When it comes to a holiday party, I always lean towards a velvet trouser and blazer. For a more formal event, I would suggest a dress with a bit of sparkle.

What’s on your Christmas wish list?
Here are my top five: a splurge-worthy watch an amazing Monse coat as I love the plaid, the technical weave, and the sporty silhouette, a new set of pots and pans for cooking and entertaining this holiday season, some jewellery — especially if diamonds are involved and finally, a weekend trip somewhere (sans kids!).
What is your advice to having a more sustainable Christmas?
Over the years I have learned to gift experiences rather than tangible items. If I am gifting physical items, I’m always sure that they are useful and wanted, rather than blind gifting. I always make sure to save wrapping paper/bags from gifts that I receive so that I can re-use in the future.
What will you be buying for loved ones this season?
I’m looking forward to gifting my daughter Venessa Arizaga bracelets. She’s really into arts and crafts right now, and she loves jewellery! For my music-loving son a guitar and for my sister, who is always on the go, a suitcase and air pod case which are equal parts practical and chic.
What’s your favourite kind of gift to receive and what do you like to give back?
I really appreciate thoughtful, more personal gifts. When it comes to giving back, aside from donations, I like to take part in physical activities such as wrapping gifts for kids in need for the holiday season.
