It was a pretty unique showspace that staged the Carolina Herrera spring/summer 2016 collection, housed in New York’s Frick Collection on 5th Avenue. The museum, recognised for it’s Vermeer, Rembrandt and classic sculpture exhibitions, had never held a fashion show before, but it was the ideal setting for Herrera’s ultra-feminine foray.
Victoria’s Secret Angel Lily Aldridge made a return to the catwalk by opening the Carolina Herrera collection in an all-white ensemble. The supermodel live-streamed her experience backstage via Periscope.
Purposely avoiding prints for the spring/summer 2016 season, Herrera instead looked to the world of fabric tech and trompe l’oeil by fusing fabric with mesh to mimic the old school technique of box pleating.
Penelope Cruz, a longtime devotee of Carolina Herrera, was a special guest at the show. She sat front row alongside her stylist Cristina Ehrlich who was seen scouting looks for Cruz’s upcoming attendance at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival).

Herrera took think pink to a whole new level this season, citing that her inspiration for the collection was reflective of her “rose period”. The result was, of course, saccharine-sweet. But it fit the bill of Herrera’s uptown New York woman.
