A serene and laid-back staycation surrounded by the colourful culture and charm of the Emirates

Hidden on the trunk of Palm Jumeirah, Andaz Dubai The Palm promises a serene and laid-back staycation surrounded by the colourful culture and charm of the Emirates

Before stepping into the kaleidoscopic lobby of Andaz Dubai The Palm, you find yourself under an ornately carved canopy which projects enlarged mosaic patterns onto the floor when the light seeps through it; a warm, and very soothing, welcome indeed. Upon entering the lobby you become immersed in the UAE’s culture with vibrant bolts of colour streaming from regional artwork and interiors inspired by the rich heritage of the Emirates.

It is not the uber-modern or extremely opulent five-star entrance you’d expect from a Dubai hotel, but Andaz (Hyatt’s luxury lifestyle brand) prides itself on embracing the local art and culture of each destination. At Andaz Dubai, this is instantly reflected through the glass falcons that fly through the air; the many references to the UAE’s pearl diving history; the floor-to-ceiling Arabic calligraphy; and the Sadu embroidered carpet that sits beneath a table subtly made from local stingray leather.

This cool and contemporary nod to UAE culture is carried throughout the 217 guest rooms (including 34 suites) and the property’s unique designer residences. Sights, scents and textures of Dubai are mirrored in every aspect of each room; from the wooden headboards that curl up onto the ceiling like a Bedouin tent to the teal, orange and golden yellow canvases showcasing the work of Emirati creatives and the traditional Middle Eastern aroma of amber, musk and essential oils in the locally sourced, eco-friendly amenities.

Whether overlooking Dubai’s glittering cityscape or the Palm’s boundless blue backdrop of sea and sky, the 360-degree views (and floor to ceiling widows) fill the property’s rooms with endless light and stunning landscapes to escape into. And when you’re in need an afternoon siesta, you can simply tap a switch and black-out curtains sweep across the space to help you drift off and truly unwind. If that doesn’t work, try the sink-into bathtub or head to the 14th floor to find a slice of serenity in the form of Ora Spa.

On the same floor, guests can find a fully equipped fitness centre and a cabana pool area co-designed by local artist Khalid Shafar. The adult-only pool has a laid-back vibe heightened by its luxurious finish and white-curtained cabanas that offer peace and privacy. A space destined for both sunshine seekers and those who prefer to relax in the shade with a refreshing drink in hand, the rooftop pool feels ultra-exclusive — but, it is just as comfortable and easy-going as the rest of the hotel.

The hotel also boasts a family-friendly infinity pool — complete with stunning seascape views — and a private stretch of beach, which is located at the foot of a landscaped garden. Just a two-minute walk from Andaz’s two-towered building, the beach is perfect for all-day lounging and post sunset strolls before heading back to the main property for dinner.

Considered as a neighborhood eatery, The Locale is the hotel’s main restaurant and concept store. Sourcing local produce where possible, the restaurant further emphasises Andaz’s dedication to the region, as home-grown will be taken a one step further when a small farming facility is completed onsite.

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, inspired by Middle Eastern, Western and Asian culinary influences, the food is garden fresh and cooked in open kitchens — which allows you to watch your chosen dish come to life. After your morning coffee, browse through The Locale’s display of locally crafted artisan accessories and one-off treasures to take home with you.

Above The Locale sits the Andaz Lounge, an ‘anti-office’ workspace to seek solace and inspiration in. Decked in striking art, abstract sculptures and plush seating in loud colours of marigold and fuchsia, the cosy den offers a contemporary space to catch up on emails and grab a coffee or an afterwork drink, while details such as the library of books and the colourful chalk boards make you feel at home.

And for those who enjoy the finer things, a reservation at 15th floor restaurant, Hanami, is a must. Serving a sojphisctaed spin on Japanese street-food, in authentic and very Instagrammable packaging, the sharing-style dishes are an exquisite blend of flair and flavour; from the spider maki rolls to the ebi tempura and the wagyu katsu bun of dreams. Elevated by the sleek and stylish interiors, the restaurant also boasts unrivalled skyline views to soak in while sipping on an artfully crafted cocktail.

Promising a luxury staycation filled with the warmth and comfort of home, the property has everything you need to forget the world outside. But if you do want to venture beyond the hotel, the city is also on your doorstep with Nakheel Shopping Mall and Club Vista Mare nearby, and the rest of Dubai just a short taxi ride away.

Whether you stay for a lazy weekend or a week-long escape, it’s clear that Andaz Dubai The Palm is not like any other hotel in the region. Forgoing rigid five-star formalities for art-filled hallways and quirking corners, the hotel celebrates the charming culture of the Emirates and finds a blissful balance between the region’s desire for luxury and the joy of laid-back living.

Andaz Dubai The Palm’s summer staycation is available until September 15, with rooms starting from Dhs419, inclusive of a la carte breakfast and 20% off all food and beverages. Find out more at Hyatt.com call +971 4 581 1234
