Humming with restaurants, designer galleries and a charming mix of old and new, Amman is the beautiful Arab capital causing a buzz. Whether it’s the burgeoning arts scene that captures your interest or the little speakeasy style bars waiting to be discovered in downtown’s tiny alleyways, this is definitely a city worth exploring. It’s also the place where regional influencer, Bana Abujaber of Sidenotbanaa, calls home. Here, the Jordanian native breaks down her must-sees and do’s in the city.

BEST BREAKFAST SPOTS Blue Fig has been a favourite spot of mine for as long as I can remember, they offer delicious manaqeesh. I would recommend the cheese & zaatar as well as the peanut butter & jam. There’s Shams El Balad for good vibes, local produce and delicious dishes. But if you are looking for more of a traditional breakfast Al Usra serves the traditional hummus and foul type of breakfast.

TOP THREE MUST-DOS WHILE IN TOWN Gallery hopping in Jabal al Weibdeh. If you’re around check out Wadi Finan, Darat al Funun and Nabad Art Gallery. Jasmine House Art & Food is something you shouldn’t miss. It is a gallery that promotes local culture and architecture, and the best part is that you can enjoy it over a delicious bowl of pasta. Lastly, a walk through Rainbow Street and Downtown is a must. It’s one of my favourite things to do especially when I’m shooting for my blog. Pass by the soap house and get lost in Weibdeh’s alleys and stairways.

HIPPEST HOTEL La Locanda Hotel is a boutique hotel located in the heart of Jabal Il Weibdeh. With only 14 rooms, each room celebrates a different Arabic artist such as Um Kalthoum, Sayed Darwish etc. Also the W Hotel is opening soon; pretty sure that’s going to be the one!

HOTTEST TABLE IN TOWN That would have to be Rustic at the Canary Hotel in Jabal Al Weibdeh!

FOR A REAL TASTE OF AMMAN Head to Beit Sitti and you'll learn how to cook traditional Arabic dishes such as mansaf, kusa Mahshi. Then you get to eat the meal afterwards. So much fun!
WHERE TO TAKE THE PERFECT PICTURE For a good view of Amman, downtown has some pretty awesome spots!
MUST BUY SOUVENIR Traditional Jordanian Head Scarf, which is mostly worn in the desert and is traditional for the Bedouin culture. That’s something one should take home.
WHERE TO GO TO ESCAPE THE CHAOS Camping in Wadi Rum! It is a must see for any visitor coming to Jordan. It has the most extraordinary desert scenery you’ll ever see!
WHAT TO PACK Amman is a pretty laid back city, you don’t have to worry about packing anything fancy. For the day time you can throw on a pair of jeans and sneakers. Don’t forget to pack a light leather jacket; it gets a bit chilly at night.
