Constantly challenging the boundaries of masculinity, race and music with his sensational costumes, there was no fashion risk Prince was reluctant to make. The extraordinary Minnesota native was inspired by a swirling consortium of attire, which included pastel suits, laser cut jumpsuits and white ruffle tunics.
Earlier this week, the Minneapolis Star Tribune revealed that investigators probing into Prince's death found that pills recovered from his Paisley Park compound were mislabelled. The newspaper cited a source who said the pills contained fentanyl, the drug that killed the performer.
Over the course of his career, Prince won seven Grammy Awards and earned 30 nominations. He also won an Oscar for the original song score to the film Purple Rain. The legacy he leaves behind is evident both on the runway and on the stage, with his influence unmistakable in many musical eccentrics, including Miguel and Kanye West.
This seemingly ageless singer outperformed musicians half his age and boasted incomparable talent, as he slashed the strings of his sculpture guitar and screeched hypnotic lyrics. There are almost too many dynamic, vivid and dizzying looks to reflect upon. Often shirtless, always daring and never dull, Prince can be considered a torch-bearer who managed to retain an air of mystery that continues to prove elusive. Ever the showman, his outfits will continue to ooze into the designer’s imagination. His purple reign, which includes his memorable style, will endure forever.
