#OnTheRadar: The Dior Bobby Bag

July 2020

From his pink-hued childhood home in Granville to his horticulturalist sister Catherine, Christian Dior built his namesake house upon the memories, treasures and people that influenced him the most — including his beloved dog, Bobby.

The muse behind Dior’s latest handbag silhouette, Bobby is revisited through the lens of creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, and subtlety placed at the heart of this new chic carrier.

Designed for autumn 2020, the elegant bag — featuring smooth, curved lines and a delicate buckle falling from the signature CD initials — is forecast to be the it-bag for the new season, with a timeless yet contemporary design that is just as sophisticated as the woman set to carry it.

Available from July 16, the leather carrier comes in three sizes and three colourways; classic black, sumptuous cream and covetable camel — with one additional deign in blue Dior Oblique canvas.

A modern form with an everlasting sentiment, Dior’s new Bobby bag is not the first design to draw inspiration from the founder’s loyal pet. “Each collection contained a suit earmarked for success called Bobby,” Christian Dior wrote in his memoirs.

Lending his name to some of Dior’s most celebrated tailoring (think tweed skirts and structured jackets pinned in at the waist), Bobby was also the creative influence behind a limited-edition perfume bottle designed by Fernand Guery-Colas.

Now, Bobby is back to inspire a new object of desire — a classic handbag that embodies the quintessence of the house of Dior. Shop Dior’s Bobby bag from July 16; Dior.com
