A treasure trove of history, art and culture, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is the perfect place for a weekend of escapism — whether it’s discovering primeval artifacts, gazing into fantastical landscapes or embarking on a journey into the ancient roots of chivalry at the newly reopened ‘Furusiyya: The Art of Chivalry between East and West’ exhibition.

After three months of lockdown enforced closure, the Louvre Abu Dhabi reopened its doors on June 24 — as this weekend sees the return of the ‘Furusiyya’ exhibition. Extended until October 18, ‘Furusiyya’ was briefly launched prior to lockdown and will therefore reopen for those who missed it first time around.

Furusiyya: The Art of Chivalry between East and West

The exhibit is a exploration of knightly culture, highlighting tales that have been told throughout history and delving into the origins of chivalric codes. Over 130 artworks are on display — dating back from the 10th to the 16th century, from France and Spain, to Iraq and Syria — including spectacular armour, remarkably rare manuscripts, intricate tapestries and intriguing artifacts that help to detail how distinct practices of combat and knightly values led to a specific culture in the Islamic East and Christian West.

Offering a chance to encounter how some of these knightly practices became an ancient past time, and how some are still continued across the world today, the ‘Furusiyya’ exhibition is a captivating experience for culture enthusiasts and those who enjoy a tour through history.

Before heading back to the museum, guests should note the new regulations in place: from pre-booking tickets, to revised opening hours and operations that include the mandatory wearing of masks and gloves, limited capacity, social distancing and thermal scanning. Louvreabudhabi.ae

For those who can’t make it to the Louvre, a 360° experience of the exhibition is also available here
