Adding her own modern twist to Bulgari’s iconic Serpenti handbag, Yoon — the brains behind achingly cool Tokyo-based brand Ambush — showcases her urban artistry for the Ambush x Bvlgari collaboration, with a campaign featuring Bella Hadid

A limited-edition collection of handbags and accessories, the Serpenti Through The Eyes Of series is born out of creative collaborations with designers who reinterpret the iconic snake for Bulgari. The latest chapter, Ambush x Bvlgari, showcases a unique partnership between the luxury Italian house and young Korean-American designer, Yoon, who the creative director of Japanese label Ambush. 

Capturing a distinct Tokyo aesthetic, Ambush started as an experimental jewellery line inspired by innovative pop art, before expanding into ready-to-wear with unisex, streetwear infused collections. Now, the brand is putting its quirky  spin on Bulgari’s signature snake.

“For this capsule collection I wanted to express the bold and contemporary character of Serpenti” said Yoon.“Snakes are wondrous and fascinating creatures of nature but with Bvlgari they also became a symbol of glamour in constant evolution. Natural beauty meets human creation, all guided by a contemporary aesthetic.”

Cradled by Bella Hadid, the soft shaped, Ambush x Bvlgari handbag is inspired by the Tree Python of South East Asia; a species famed for its striking, artificial-looking colours and fascinating movements. Mirroring the python’s vibrant palette, the three bag styes — the Serpenti shoulder bag, belt bag and minaudière — come in statement-making hues such as orchid purple, chartreuse green and electric blue.

Each style is adorned with a camouflaged snakehead closure, which is made from the same Nappa leather as the carrier to create a fresh and totally monochromatic silhouette. Embellished with eyes in mother-of-pearl (for the black iterations) and in black onyx (for the coloured bags), Yoon’s urban-glam vision can be seen throughout the pieces, and is extended into array of accessories; indulging a heart-shaped coin case, credit card holders and three-coil Serpenti bracelet.
