Eclectic interiors, a playful menu and a sprawling terrace perfect for whiling away the hours. MOJEH visits Masti
Definition of Masti: 'Fun and mischief'
Award winning chef Hari Nayak brings a reimagining of Indian cuisine to Dubai's La Mer. Think bao buns with an Asian twist and mushroom and truffle cream inside miniature ice-cream cones. Epic food aside, you'll be hard pressed not to feel inspired by the indulgent interiors.
Make your way through the downstairs terrace (fairy-lights and exotic plants included). And then slink on through the marble tables teamed with dandelion-yellow cushions, and you'll reach the coffee-bar. Rainforest prints build the backdrop, and the bar itself is made from a rich green marble. Bronze hued shelves envelope it and balls of light fall from the ceiling. Cool, quirky and enviably stylish. Coffee corner goals at their very best...
Next up, the first floor terrace. If, like us, you have a penchant for the laid-back, sociable vibe that India has to offer, then Masti's terrace will fast become your preferred Dubai hangout. Bursts of colour are littered across the sprawling outside area, mismatched prints entwine in a jovial manner, and fauna frames the entire space. Most importantly, it's set up for socialising. Large, laid-back bench-style sofas are teamed with low tables. Or, take your pick between an intimate small setting or a large lavish table perfect for entertaining.
Speaking of entertaining, the private dining area is a good excuse for a party. Low-lighting, regal dinnerware and shelves scattered with ornate Indian keep-sakes make for the perfect setting to share a selection of Nayak's irresistible dishes.
On The Menu, MOJEH Recommends The key to navigating Masti's menu is no holding back. You'll recognise the foundations of the dishes - tartare's, ceviche and classic curries to name a few - but not chef Nayak's delicious twists on each of them. Be open minded and you won't regret it. For starts: Bhatti Spiced Brisket Bao Buns, Yellow Pepper Roasted Fish, and Mushroom and Truffle Cream Cones. For mains: Smoked Lentils and Quinoa Tikki, Seriously Good Lamb Chops, or Five Spices Angus Striploin. For dessert: Carrot Coconut Cake and Lotus Tiramisu.
Between the epic views of Dubai, fresh sea-breeze, delicious concoctions of mocktails, and some seriously inspirational interiors, Masti is a total assault on the senses. But just like India, it's love at first sight. Fun, dynamic and unmistakably different, a must visit.
