The Boom
It seems the market for contemporary art has been on a steady incline in recent years. Much of the art sold from western auction houses in the last couple of years have been snapped up from buyers in Russia, China and Middle East – like the $170m Modigliani at Christie’s last November purchased by a collector from Shanghai. Galleries like that of David Zwirner who presented collections Art Basel’s sister show in Hong Kong, reported a sellout of art that included a five Michaël Borremans paintings at a hefty $1.6 million.
