Spotted across the autumn/winter 2020 runway — with Prada, Carolina Herrera, Jil Sander, Chloé and Miu Miu, all showcasing their take on the trend — blazers worked best when pulled in at the waist.
A belt-cinch turns the boxy, masculine lines of an oversized blazer into a more put-together and flattering silhouette that can be worn to the office (with co-ordinating tailored trousers or a pleated skirt) or pared-back with jeans or cycling shorts (à la Kaia Gerber) for an off-duty look inspired by streetwear.
Carolina Herrera offered a flamboyant take on the trend, pairing a fuchsia and crimson printed suit with a rope-tied belt complete with tasseled ends; at Prada, boardroom jackets in natural tones of black and beige become more playful when worn with teeny-tiny belt bags (so subtle you might miss them); unbuttoned belted blazers were ever-so-casual at Chloé, with rolled-up sleeves and layers creating a laid-back vibe; and Celine, a gold chain belt added a hint of glamour to all black tuxedo.
Whether worn with a fringe skirt, top-to-toe tailoring or mix and match separates, the belted blazer offers a chic, polished look to wear endlessly this autumn — especially as temperatures start to cool.
