A collector of everything rare and magnificent, Egypt's King Farouk was known to have amassed quite the impressive jewellery collection in his time. Today three lots from his personal collection go on sale at Sotheby’s London. The pieces feature a ruby and diamond tie pin and cufflinks, estimated at £220-350; a diamond purse handle, estimated at £2,200-3,500; and a Van Cleef & Arpels diamond brooch, estimated at £700-1,500. Back in 2005, Sotheby's New York sold one of the royal family's Van Cleef & Arpels necklaces belonging to Farouk's mother Queen Nazli for $4.3 million.
