#StyleOfTheWeek: Colourful Kicks & OTT Ruffles Collide

A dreamy summer campaign bursting with starburst hues and achingly cool shoes, inspires a bright palette for the week

Luxury French accessories label, Roger Vivier, has teamed up with Japanese designer and artist Tomo Koizumi, on a dreamy summer campaign bursting with starburst hues and achingly cool shoes.

Set in the natural and rugged beauty of Giglio Island, in the archipelago of Tuscany, Roger Vivier’s spring/summer 2020 collection comes to life. The stunning wilderness serves as backdrop for the maison’s new Viv’ Skate sneakers and the Call Me Trés Vivier bag, which are contrasted against Tomo Koizumi’s couture-like dresses.

Inspired by the skateboarding culture of the 1970s and embedded with a youthful spirt (via a lacquered or metal side buckle in neon brights), the Viv’ Skate offers a cool, modern shoe in low-cut and high-top iterations.

Captured emerging from Koizumi’s frothy silhouettes — in loud tones of orange, green and pink —  the shoe stands out for its simplicity and its wear-with-anything (even the biggest, boldest dress you can find) appeal.

Meanwhile, the Call Me Très Vivier bag offers a perfect palate cleanser in dark denim or slate grey. Adorned with the house’s signature oversized buckle and embroidered with the word “Vivier,” the accessory reflects noughties motifs and looks particularly striking when worn with ra-ra-ruffles and colorful tights.

Worn over the shoulder or cross body, the accessory is perfect for everyday ensembles — but as Koizumi’s prom-like silhouettes prove, it can also translate to night.

The summer campaign, titled a “A Corner of Nature,” brings together two very different signatures and styles; blending different hues and alternating light to create a single palette that is reminiscent of a Claude Monet landscape.

But unlike the calming serenity of the natural landscape they are photographed in, Tomo Koizumi’s colourful clouds and Roger Vivier’s contemporary kicks are destined to make some noise.
