Taking place from 24 January to 2 February, Reel Palestine showcases a curation of thought-provoking films that highlight the many facets of Palestinian life

Creating a community through a shared love of film, Cinema Akil continues to champion independent cinema in the region. This year, Reel Palestine returns for its 11th edition, kicking off with Mehdi Fleifel's To A Land Unknown after its successful festival run. The 10-day event showcases eight feature films and documentaries, alongside 13 short films presented in two distinctive programmes. Notably, this year's edition also pays homage to the enduring legacy of Hani Jawhareih, the visionary who laid the foundation for Palestinian cinema.

To A Land Unknown, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival last year, tells the poignant story of a Palestinian refugee in Athens striving for a better life. This powerful film sets the stage for a diverse lineup, including Passing Dreams, an endearing road-trip film, and A State of Passion, a documentary offering a harrowing glimpse into Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah's experiences working in Gaza's emergency rooms during bombardments.

Complementing the screenings, Cinema Akil will host Q&A sessions and workshops with filmmakers. The Reel Palestine Souk will also be in full swing every weekend, featuring approximately 60 businesses from Palestine, including 18 directly from the homeland. With an array of offerings from food and art to apparel, there's much to explore at Alserkal Avenue during the next 10 days. Reel Palestine runs from 24 January to 2 February at Cinema Akil, Alserkal Avenue. Book now
