Fashion meets art: Osman Yousefzada debuts solo exhibition at Birmingham’s Ikon gallery

Having conquered the fashion world with his namesake brand Osman, Afghan British designer Osman Yousefzada is now breaking into the world of art with his first solo exhibition, Being Somewhere Else. The multi-disciplinary showcase takes over Birmingham’s Ikon gallery, presenting mediums of film, fabric as well as installations. The exhibit sets out to explore the sociopolitical currents found in art and fashion focusing on the inherent inequalities and experiences of migrants.

Sponsored by Selfridges, with support from Dazed, Eco-Age and Leila Elling, the exhibition will coincide with The Migrant Festival, a four day event curated by Yousefzada. The event includes a screening of The True Cost with an introduction by Executive Producer Livia Firth; a fashion parade led by activist Saffiyah Kahn; illustration workshops with illustrator Gregory Mark Lewis; and finally, a Diaspora Disco to conclude the festival.

Being Somewhere Else will run until June 29 at Ikon Gallery in Birmingham, while The Migrant Festival will take place from June 14 to 17
