On The Radar: Weekend Kicks From Kenzo And Vans

Jun 11, 2020 | 2 min read

Kenzo reprises its partnership with the skate brand and it might just be this summer's greatest ode to florals

Dusting off your sneakers just in time for a weekend on the run? Kenzo and Vans have released a new footwear collaboration and it's a wardrobe must for anyone who appreciates a cool pair of kicks.

Vivid, all-over floral prints taken from the Kenzo archives wrap legendary Vans Sk8-Hi, high-top sneaker, and the Old-Skool, low-top sneaker – the iconic silhouette featuring the classics Vans Sidestripe. The skate brand is celebrated for its fuss-free, nonchalant approach to footwear but the new launch ramps things up with energetic and vividly-hued designs. The styles come in three prints each, ranging in men's and women's sizing. And in the accompanying campaign, Ari Marcopoulos captures seven real skaters and friends – Tre’Veon Ladson, Tyron Watts, Vincent Nava, Omoye Brown, Surish Singh, David Branom and Rebecca L’Amore – within a raw Los Angeles setting.

The collection's high note is arguably the skateboard deck in collaboration with The Skateroom. Epically cool in a wash of blue and pink artsy florals – no we don't skate, but yes we will be chasing after one of the 150 limited edition pieces.

Finally, expanding on the skate inspiration is a capsule of ready-to-wear pieces and accessories designed by Felipe Oliveira Baptista – his first capsule collection as creative director for Kenzo. In the same vein as the Kenzo and Vans sneakers, archival floral prints anchor the dynamic and youthful wardrobe. Sharp cuts and unisex themes lend a sporty comfort to the pieces. The capsule includes 46 ready-to-wear pieces, including jersey items made with 100% organic cotton and other sports inspired looks.

The Kenzo and Vans collection will be available from June 17 in select boutiques including The Dubai Mall (Dubai), Riyadh Park (Riyadh), Red Sea Mall (Jeddah), and The Avenues (Kuwait).
The skateboard will be limited to 150 pieces and sold online. One hundred percent of the profits will be donated to a social skate project in Jamaica created to help and empower at-risk youth.
