For SS20, Saint Laurent offers a new take on timeless tailoring...
It may be spring/summer 2020, but Anthony Vaccarello’s latest interpretation of Le Smoking serves up some serious New Year’s Eve outfit envy — so take note for what to wear when the clock strikes midnight.
Paying homage to Saint Laurent’s signature Parisian glamour, the designer re-created the iconic Le Smoking look (invented by the house’s founder Yves Saint Laurent), turning the signature style into a dazzling sequin showstopper. After all, sequins are the only way to elevate a classic.
Reclaiming power-dressing, the SS20 collection saw a series of thirty-plus razor sharp tuxedos in all-black velvet, satin and shimmer; paired with tiny tailored shorts, luxe leather and sheer bow-tied blouses that bring a new meaning to black tie.
Off the runway, Le Smoking 2.0 has been captured by photographer Juergen Teller on model muses Kate Moss, Freja Beha Erichsen, Stella Tennant, Liya Kebede, Mica Argañaraz, Anja Rubik and Naomi Campbell — who closed the SS20 show wearing the suit in Paris.
A style that will continued to be revisited, no matter what the season or year: Le Smoking is re-channeled for a new generation, in a new decade... still as timeless as ever.
