Classic novels are being transformed into animated Instagram stories
The New York Public Library is taking its collection of classics global via its new social initiative “Insta Novels”, which aims to make great stories available even more widely. The Insta Novels turns Instagram's “stories” function into book pages. Users can flick through the animated visuals and text directly in the app as they would on an e-reader device, and in the same way they currently interact with the stories of those they follow.
The library enlisted New York-based advertising and creative agency Mother for the branding, and to source artists and designers who could create colourful visuals to accompany each title. First on the reading list is Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, which has been adapted for mobile viewing with graphics by illustrator Magoz and is available to read now via @nypl.
"Instagram unknowingly created the perfect bookshelf for this new kind of online novel," Corinna Falusi, partner and chief creative officer of Mother in New York, said in a statement. "From the way you turn the pages, to where you rest your thumb while reading, the experience is already unmistakably like reading a paperback novel."
However, if you still prefer a good old-fashioned paper book, it’s now easier than ever to get great reading recommendations thanks to Instagram and these book-loving influencers.
