Heading to London this month? Be sure to check out the new From Palestine With Art exhibition, which pays tribute to the talent of contemporary Palestinian artists
With Palestine and art two things we hold close to our hearts, we’ll be making a beeline for London’s P21 Gallery this month, where a new exhibition will feature works of 20 Palestinian artists — both established names and emerging talents — showcasing a diverse collection of works reflecting the undeniable beauty of the country.
Visitors can expect to encounter a wide array of artistic styles and themes to mirror the multifaceted nature of Palestinian identity and experience. Faisal Saleh, executive director of Palestine Museum US where the exhibition was first showcased, is hoping to offer a broad introduction to the vibrant Palestinian art scene. “The collection showcases both figurative and abstract paintings, offering an array of perspectives and artistic styles,” he tells us. “From stunning landscapes to intimate portraits, it’s a rich tapestry of visual storytelling.”
Of particular note is In Pursuit Of Utopia #7 by Nabil Anani, an acrylic on canvas based on the idea that in pursuit of utopia, one might never arrive at the destination. “The word utopia comes with a certain criticality as it can voice dissatisfaction with the status quo, or holds a vision of the future that differs in at least some aspects from the present,” adds Saleh. “It is in this sense that Nabil Anani sees Palestine: a prosperous thriving place free from occupation; a land that takes pride in its nature and parades it jubilantly; a dream worth pursuing.”
Be sure to also check out Mohammed Alhaj’s masterpiece Relocation, which is an important inquiry about fate and the future, while Saleh will also shed light on the ongoing catastrophes in Palestine by screening a current film about Gaza. We’ll see you there. From 2 Feb — 2 March, P21 Gallery, 21-27 Chalton St, London, England. Learn more
