Marking a significant milestone for the region’s art community, Andy Warhol’s masterpieces make their debut in the UAE

From soup cans to your favourite celebrity, the “Pope of Pop Art,” Andy Warhol, made a muse out of both the ordinary and the spectacular. His artistic endeavours, recognised as a part of the Pop Art movement of the 60s, included mass-produced art which worked to glorify the supposed banality of commercial culture.

For the month of October, Warhol’s pieces will be exhibited for the first time in the UAE at the Foundry in Downtown Dubai. Presented by theatre company Art For All and curated by Nada Ghandour, Andy Warhol: The Glam Factory is a captivating exploration of the life and work of the iconic Pop Art pioneer. The exhibition features over 100 original pieces, including screen prints, photographs and magazines, providing a comprehensive portrait of Warhol's artistic journey and his impact on American society. From his humble beginnings as an illustrator to becoming a renowned name in the art world, Warhol's career mirrored the artistic and societal transformations of the 1960s and 1980s. He moved from hand painting to screen printing, all the while being fascinated and influenced by consumer culture.

Split into two sections, the exhibition will focus on both his artworks and the places of their creation, offering an immersive experience for the region’s art enthusiasts. Adding an extra layer of intrigue is New York-based architect Ibrahim Kombarji's unique design of the exhibition which further enhances the environment and the ability to appreciate Warhol's works. As the temperatures in the region don't seem to be cooling quite as fast as we would like, art galleries offer an ideal escape from the heat. Andy Warhol: The Glam Factory is on show at the Foundry, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, until 31 October 2024. Learn More
