The high jewellers latest purchase does not disappoint
The Emirati Swiss luxury jewellery firm Mouawad has purchased a 51.38 carat Dynasty diamond, the largest and purest of five stones offered for sale by Alrosa, the partially state-owned Russian diamond mining company.
The rough diamond was originally unearthed in 2015 in the Republic of Sakha in Russia, when it weighed 179 carats before being cut to its current weight. As a D colour brilliant-cut diamond it has the top colour grade, and its VVS1 clarity makes it the best quality large diamond ever manufactured in Russia.
"What attracted us to the Dynasty is not only its exceptional quality, but the transparency of its history and the fact that it’s the largest and most valuable diamond ever sold by Alrosa. It’s a rare gem with a remarkable record," said Fred and Pascal Mouawad, co-CEOs of the Mouawad Group.
The brand is known for its stunning collection of diamonds including the 245.35 carat Jubilee Diamond, the 135.92 carat Queen of Holland diamond, and the 69.42 carat Taylor Burton diamond that was gifted to Elizabeth Taylor by her husband Richard Burton.
