Delving into the bold, thrilling and sometimes topsy-turvy world of one of couture’s most dynamic duos, exhibition From the Hearts to the Hands: Dolce & Gabbana at Milan’s Palazzo Reale is poised to set the Italian summer on fire. The grandeur of the sweeping staircases and marble of the Milanese palace provides the perfect setting for this retrospective of the extreme drama and maximalist sensibilities that only D&G can muster.

With a focus on the exquisite Italian craftsmanship behind the Maison’s lavish creations, From the Hearts to the Hands offers a glimpse behind the painstaking processes that define true fatto a mano — handmade — a hallmark of the couture rhythm that beats at the centre of Dolce & Gabbana. In addition to one- off pieces from the pair’s Alta Moda, Alta Sartoria and Alta Gioielleria collections, works from visual artists that play to the Maison’s themes are also woven throughout the exhibit, making this a truly immersive experience.

Each Friday, D&G tailors will be at work live in the exhibition to give a rare glimpse of the couture process, with visitors able to bear witness to the creation of real runway-bound pieces. Curated by art and fashion historian Florence Müller, who worked closely with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana to bring their story to life, this is a truly personal peek into the heart of a one-off Maison.
