Contemporary artists from the region and beyond descend upon AlUla, Saudi Arabia for the second instalment of Desert X AlUla

Desert X AlUla is an international art exhibition that takes place in the ancient landscapes of AlUla, Saudi Arabia, bringing artwork, nature and culture together. It returns for the second edition on 11 February where breathtaking works will be on display until 30 March. The site-responsive exhibition held its first edition in 2020 and, following a pandemic-related hiatus, is back and better than ever.

The theme for the 2022 edition is Sarab; the exhibition will explore the ideas of mirage and oasis, inviting spectators to wander through spectacular landscapes and the Al Mutadil valley to embark on an experiential journey. Curated by Reem Fadda, Raneem Farsi and Neville Wakefield and building upon the Desert X exhibition in California's Coachella Valley, Desert X AlUla's participating artists have produced works addressing dreams, camouflage, illusion, myths and disappearance while examining the connection between natural and man-made environments.

AlUla was once at the crossroads of The Incense Route and The Silk Road and was a bustling centre of intercultural exchange and creativity. Desert X AlUla juxtaposes these rugged, history-filled landscapes with contemporary artworks by renowned regional and international artists. Desert X AlUla is free to attend and takes place as part of the AlUla Arts Festival.
