The world is alight with culinary hotspots just waiting to be indulged in and there's no better time to get out there and discover them. First stop? Rome's three-starred restaurant, La Pergola

Boasting more than 13,000 restaurants — with 23 the proud owners of at least one Michelin star — and an outstanding culinary history, it’s no surprise that Rome is considered Italy’s best foodie city. Certainly not limited to just pizza, the Eternal City is home to everything from hole-in-the-wall eateries reinventing classic pasta dishes and sprawling food halls that let you grab and go, to fancy fine-dining outlets for which you’ll need your chicest gladrags. If you’re opting for the latter, La Pergola is where you need to be.

Rome’s first and only three Michelin-starred restaurant, La Pergola’s interiors of frescoed ceilings, warm cherry wood accents, fine furniture, and 18th and 19th century artworks create the most elegant of settings for Chef Heinz Beck’s gourmet cuisine, with dishes ranging from starters of amberjack tartare and veal sweetbread to mains of aubergine tortellini with redprawns, John Dory with zucchini leaves and pigeon with corn cream and black elderberries. Sit down to the 10-course tasting menu if you’re feeling flush.
