Sofía Sanchez de Betak, the New York-based Fashion designer otherwise known as Chufy, has unveiled a new collection inspired by the cinematic Arabian desert.
From an oryx-like long robe to a stylish safari jumpsuit, the line is comprised of garments that portray Emirati art and culture in a 54-piece collection exclusively available at Etoile “La boutique.”
Drawn to traditional old souks, falconry, palm trees and desert safari trips across the dunes, the designer used her own experience of visiting the UAE and translated it into a vivid, vibrant collection.
Centred around the UAE’s national animal, the oryx (a local antelope species), the ready-to-wear line expresses a narrative of history, heritage and tradition.
“The UAE is a country of unconventional architecture with many awe-inspiring and opulent buildings, Dubai, and on a larger scale, the UAE, has solidified itself on the global map as a travel destination” said Sofía Sanchez de Betak, “yet it’s amazing to see how this country and culture remain deeply rooted in its rich history.”
Built in a rich colour palette, Chufy’s AW19 collection features lush greens, browns and reds fused with golden embroidery, oranges, yellows and blues that reflect a striking desert sunset.
Lightweight blouses, kaftans, tunics and flowing pants made for Dubai’s hot climes, are mixed with ankle grazing skirts and jumpers to throw on in the cool desert night.
A sartorial snapshot of Sofía’s journey through Dubai, the fall/winter collection is a contemporary take on traditional style.
