How Cate Blanchett Recycled Her Oscars’ Armani Privé Dress in Cannes

May 11, 2018 | 1 min read

Where have we seen that dress before?

When Cate Blanchett walks a red carpet heads are known to turn, but for the Cannes Film Festival opening ceremony they did for a different reason: her black Armani Privé gown. Yes the dress might be quite the stunner, with a long black bustier and a deep cut on the back, but if you rewind your fashion clock you’ll realise you’ve seen this showstopping number before. The dress appeared on the actress at the 2016 Golden Globes, the year she won Best Actress for the movie Blue Jasmine. In revisiting a gown already worn on the red carpet Cate Blanchett, who will preside over the Film Festival jury, showed her support for the Green Carpet Challenge (or GCC); a symbolic gesture towards the idea of more responsible consumerism.
