Marina Rinaldi is known for making history, founded in 1980 the brand was one of the first to create size inclusive clothes with a focus on stylish, curve-conscious designs. Fast-Forward to 2019, and the label continues to make milestone moves, this time alongside American activist, model and brand ambassador Ashely Graham.
Entitled ‘The First Time,’ Marina Rinaldi’s latest spring/summer 2020 campaign celebrates a seventh creative collaboration with Graham, who has been the face of the brand since 2017 — but more significantly, it captures Graham’s journey into motherhood, which marks the first time a luxury brand has explored maternity through an advertising campaign.
In a series of stunning black and white photographs by Erez Sabag, Graham — who has always championed body positivity — showcases her changing silhouette confidently with the same charm and glamour she is renowned for, unafraid to confront how pregnancy is stereotypically portrayed.
“I’m accepting all the changes that my body is going through over the months”, says Graham, “and now, more than ever, I have a sense of the super powers that being a woman gives me. There is a totally natural change going on inside of me and I feel brave, beautiful, and that I just keep getting stronger.”
Encapsulating the excitement and enthusiasm of a first-time mother, the SS20 campaign also marks the dramatic shift that motherhood entails, and why it’s therefore important to embrace the change that pregnancy brings.
Wearing cowl neck duster coats, snug fits, refined see-through effects and embossed detailing, the new collection complements and celebrates Graham’s figure — without sacrificing on elegance or style.
Completing a chain of firsts, these behind the scenes photographs offer a first glimpse into the groundbreaking campaign that is destined to go down in history.
