Anora was the star of the night

The highly anticipated 2025 Oscars showcased strong contenders across all categories.  AnoraWickedEmilia PérezThe Substance and The Brutalist generated significant buzz, with Emilia Pérez leading with 13 nominations. However, Anora emerged as the night's big winner, securing four awards, including Best Actress for Mikey Madison. Sean Baker, the film's writer, director, editor, and co-producer, also took home four statues, tying Walt Disney's record for the most Academy Awards won by a single individual.   

Zoe Saldaña made history with her Best Supporting Actress win for Emilia Pérez, becoming the first American of Dominican descent to receive the award. In her emotional acceptance speech, she stated, "My grandmother came to this country in 1961 — I am a proud child of immigrant parents. With dreams, dignity, and hardworking hands, I am the first American of Dominican origin to accept an Academy Award, and I know I will not be the last."
