Shōgun, The Brutalist, Hacks and Emilia Pérez dominated the evening

New Years celebrations are well and truly behind us, and a different kind of celebrations are officially underway. Awards season kicked off with the 82nd Annual Golden Globes, which took place on Sunday 5 January in Los Angeles, California. There were snubs, surprises and celebrations - the former for Wicked, which only won one award despite multiple nominations and a highly publicised press tour. Emilia Pérez took home four awards, including Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and Best Motion Picture - Non-English Language, while Shōgun's four trophies included Best Television Series - Drama and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series - Drama for Anna Sawai's performance. The recognition of non-English language productions demonstrates a long-overdue step towards greater representation within the industry and opens doors for storytellers across the world to share their craft.

It was also an evening of celebration for Demi Moore, who won Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy for The Substance, marking her first trophy in her 45-year-long career. Shōgun's Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada were also first-time winners, as well as Jessica Gunning of Netflix's smash hit, Baby Reindeer.
