Famous for his last autumn/winter collaboration with Prada, French artist Christophe Chemin’s fantasy-like drawings and collages, commissioned by Miuccia Prada herself, are now on display in Berlin’s contemporary art studio 032c workshop. Chemin is known in the art world for his linear understanding of history, refusing to play into a dichotomy of what is considered "old" and what is "contemporary". Sharing their mutual love for re-imagining historic influences and momentous cultural motifs, Mrs. Prada and Chemin together are an artistic force to be reckoned with. "An assemblage of histories requires much more thought than plainly striving for newness," says Chemin on his recent work for the brand. One of the masterpieces of the one-of-its-kind exhibition is a certain piece where Chemin lets iconic historic figures such as Freud, Jeanne d’Arc, Che Guevara and Nina Simone wrestle in a drawing which was eventually transferred onto shirts, dresses, and skirts for Prada a/w16.
Christophe Chemin’s installation “Keep your daisies for the cold days” is open to public from March 19th to April 25th, 2016 at 032c Workshop, Berlin.
