If you find yourself in Ras Al Khaimah, be sure to stop by the historic pearling village of Al Jazirah Al Hamra, which is once again providing the backdrop to The Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival (RAKFAF). Now in its ninth year, this year’s theme of hope is reflected throughout the art on show, many artists creating work about life during the pandemic, growth, or human connections. What’s more, the outdoor exhibition of art, photography, and sculpture will present more than 130 artworks by a diverse mix of artists from 49 countries, as well as a programme of film screenings, workshops and guided tours. Emirati conceptual artist and photographer Faisal is strongly influenced by the work of American street photographer Vivian Maier, and he aims to deconstruct, reconstruct, and highlight the beauty found in life’s simplest things through his photography.
A Filipino artist based in Abu Dhabi, Buddy documents daily life, diverse cultures and landscapes in his photography and is one not to be missed.
National Geographic photographer and this year’s US guest artist, Robert has worked with the magazine for more than 25 years, photographing more than 50 stories, including the award-winning cover story entitled ‘Was Darwin Wrong?’
Nuwair Al Hejari
Emirati photographer Nuwair is a member of the Emirates Photography Society, and her work ‘Harvest’, shot in the Bidya desert in Oman last year, portrays a bountiful harvest bringing good tidings for the year ahead.
