Born and bred in Dubai, Yasmin Al Mulla co-founded YNM in 2014, a ready-to-wear fashion label that specialises in simple yet elegantly refined contemporary handmade garments. MOJEH.com spoke to the Emirati designer about her love for the cosmopolitan city, how it inspired her autumn/winter 18 collection and her favourite Dubai hotspots.

What do you love most about living in Dubai?
Never getting bored. It’s impossible to keep up with everything that’s going on in the city, which is great, because there’s always something new to do or explore.

What was the inspiration behind your AW18 collection?
It was inspired by Dubai’s impressive transformations over the years, astonishing details across the city, outstanding rapid developments, and the captivating incarnation of the city’s urban beauty.

Does living and working in Dubai impact your designs?
Absolutely! Growing up in Dubai was a beautiful and inspiring thing, as the rapid developments in the city urge us to work hard, to keep up, to develop ourselves, and to achieve our goals. As his Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum once said, “Dubai will never settle for anything less than first place”, and that’s exactly what I’m working towards.

Outside of fashion, what are your other interests?
I am a huge health and fitness enthusiast. I have been working out for the past 9+ years, and have been on a gluten free, dairy free, and non-refined sugar diet for the past couple of years. I would love to promote a healthy lifestyle in the UAE by raising nutrition education and elevating health awareness.

What are your favourite restaurants in Dubai?
Zuma is my favourite fine dining restaurant, but I also love Thiptara and LPM. Baker and Spice, Comptoir 102, and Urth by Nabz&G are great for a casual meal. I’m also super excited about Torno Subito which is opening in Dubai soon.

Where’s the best place to go shopping in Dubai?
Without any doubt, The Dubai Mall.

Where is the best place to go in Dubai if you want to get close to nature?
Al Qudra Lake is really beautiful and peaceful.

What’s your favourite thing to do on the weekend?
After a long week at work I love to spend the weekend relaxing and catching up with family and friends. I’m a true homebody and cherish cooking delicious meals while being surrounded by my loved ones.
