The 2023 Academy Awards is set to be a record-breaking show with an abundance of first-time nominees
The race is officially on! The nominees for the 2023 Academy Awards have been announced. This year’s list features 16 first-timers including Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Jamie-Lee Curtis, Brendan Fraser, Austin Butler and Michelle Yeoh, who is the first Asian to be nominated in the Best Actress category. Angela Basset also made Oscars history with her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, landing Marvel its first nomination. Everything Everywhere All At Once leads the pack with 11 nominations – including for Best Picture – closely followed by The Banshees of Inisherin with nine and Elvis with eight. Lady Gaga and Rihanna are head-to-head in the Best Song category, nominated for the soundtracks in Top Gun: Maverick and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever respectively. Who will walk away with the coveted trophy? We’ll have to wait until 12 March to find out.
