A-list jeans raise funds for refugees

These stonewashed beauties have been revamped with vibrant splashes of baby blue, orange and yellow-green. The pocket also features the quintessential ‘Love Kate’ signature.
Earlier this week, Swedish actress Alicia Vikander confirmed her long-suspected romance with Michael Fassbender, when they left a press junket for their new film The Light Between Oceans. While she was busy beaming for the cameras in New York, still basking in the glow of newly-found love, her ripped white jeans were transformed into the amazing technicoloured trousers pictured here.
Oscar-nominated actress Sharon Stone is best known for her roles in various iconic films, including Total Recall, Basic Instinct and Silver. But for years she’s also consistently impressed us with her ability to seamlessly shift between professional pantsuits and plunging evening gowns. Here, her classic denims have been given a quirky twist, with luminous yellow and orange embroidery.
From Harry Potter to The Bling Ring, Emma Watson’s style has certainly evolved throughout the years. She’s modelled for industry giants Burberry and Lancôme, studied at the prestigious Brown University, campaigned for gender equality and filmed hits like ‘Noah’. There’s no doubt her ripped denims will cause quite a stir in the auction room.

In aid of the refugee crisis, fashion designer Johny Dar has set up the initiative ‘Jeans for Refugees’. 100 celebrities have donated their denims, which Dar hand-paints and customises before selling them at auction.

The list of celebrities involved is impressive in itself. Emma Watson, Sharon Stone, Ryan Gosling, Victoria Beckham and Jane Birkin are among the stars who’ve turned over their favourite skinnies for modification.

But if you’re hoping to buy Ryan Gosling or Kate Moss’ wares, be prepared to pay a hefty sum. The auctioneer’s estimate for each is between 70,557AED and 100,763AED.

Various jeans will be put up for auction over the next 100 days, ending with a week-long exhibition of the customised denim at London’s Saatchi Gallery. If you’re tempted to place a bid, head to the live action on Catawiki.com.
