After a pandemic-induced hiatus, the Met Gala finally made its return last night in support of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. New York City was buzzing with anticipation, patiently awaiting the arrival of celebrities in their Monday best, and they did not disappoint. The evening's hair and makeup had us captivated (read: taking notes so we can replicate the best looks) with a range of looks from classic Hollywood glam and bedazzled manicures to colourful shadows and bold bangs. Here are our favourite beauty looks of the evening.
Emma Chamberlain
The YouTube star matched her eyeshadow to her Louis Vuitton gown, with makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan Fisher opting for metallic, smoked-out lids with a hint of emerald for Emma's first Met Gala.
Megan Fox
Speaking to Vogue on the Met Gala red carpet, Megan admitted she was nervous about sporting a micro-bang; hairstylist Andre Fitzsimons was inspired by pin-up beauty. With an affinity for gothic beauty, Megan's makeup artist Ash Holm paired the statement hairstyle with a classic winged liner and vampy lip.
Gigi Hadid
The supermodel dialled up the drama, dying her blonde tresses red for the occasion. Makeup artist Erin Parsons showed her skills with a graphic liner atop azure shadow.
Whitney Peak
Actress Whitney Peak kept it simple yet striking with a dewy complexion and minimal makeup, save for neon-green crystals along her lashline.
Alicia Keys
Chanel makeup artist Tasha Reiko Brown used a combination of Alicia's Keys Soulcare and Chanel products to achieve the singer's signature skin-championing finish, which was complemented by a bun adorned with rhinestones (better than a bee in your bonnet, that's for sure).
Lupita Nyong'o
Lupita donned a denim look for the Met Gala, carrying the hue to her lids via winged shadow. Hairstylist Vernon François showcased the art form that is hairstyling with Lupita's show-stopping afro inspired by conceptual art.
Camila Cabello
Makeup artist Patrick Ta went matchy-matchy for the Havana singer's look with sultry feather-like lashes and a purple smokey eye to complement her sequinned Michael Kors gown.
Naomi Osaka
Met Gala co-chair Naomi Osaka went all-out with red shadow extending to her cheekbones with a pop of highlight in the centre of the lid, rounded out with a vibrant red lip. Hairstylist Marty Harper created a gravity-defying sculpture comprising looped braids and stiff ends protruding from the sides.
Amanda Gorman
Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman took inspiration from Lady Liberty for her Met Gala debut as co-chair. Keeping her makeup minimal, makeup artist Joanna Simpkin dotted an elegant wave of crystals across Amanda's face. In her hair, she wore a laurel crown headpiece.
Cara Delevingne
Actress and model Cara Delevingne matched her feminist slogan with fierce red shadow and wet-look locks.
Cynthia Erivo
Cynthia Erivo is our forever mood with extra-long nails complete with crystals. For makeup, the actress wore a classic combo: a smokey eye and glossy nude lip.
