It was back in 2011 that Elie Saab launched his first ever fragrance, Le Parfum. Inspired by one of his favourite childhood memories, the scent of flowers in his family’s Mediterranean garden, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the launch, and to celebrate the occasion, the Lebanese designer is supporting a charitable cause close to his heart.
As we all know, Lebanon is currently facing a crisis and has been for some time. In a bid to give back to his hometown of Beirut, Saab has launched an initiative dedicated to children through a donation to UNICEF Lebanon, with a portion of proceeds from the sales of the scent’s 10th-anniversary campaign going to the UNICEF program ‘Integrated education and well-being for vulnerable girls in Lebanon’, providing a multi- sectoral learning and well-being package to ensure vulnerable adolescent girls have access to education and other basic services.
“I admire UNICEF’s mission in supporting the most vulnerable clusters and providing a solid platform to the youth,” explains the designer. “During these difficult times and in this competitive world, we should raise resilient children to be prepared for a brighter future. By giving them the time and opportunities, they need, teaching them the right skills and empowering them, they will cultivate good qualities and secure better lives. Sometimes, a rough childhood can mold children into leaders with big inspirational life lessons.”
Children in Lebanon are currently facing an unprecedented crisis, with the declining economic situation, the Covid-19 pandemic and the tragedy of the Beirut port explosions triggering devastating consequences for the most vulnerable. As they say, a little goes a long way, so do your bit and invest in a brand new fragrance all at the same time.
