Known for its story-telling scents encased in chic, minimalist bottles, fragrance brand Byredo is now venturing into the world of make-up. Created by Byredo founder and creative director, Ben Gorham, in collaboration with iconic make-up artist, Isamaya Ffrench, the new beauty line is comprised of lipsticks, balms, a mascara, a liquid liner, an eyeshadow compact (that will drop in November), and multipurpose colour sticks in sixteen different hues to play with.
Made for creativity, the colour sticks can be used across the eyes, lips, cheeks or skin — with striking shades of shimmering blue, khaki green, punchy plum and sunbaked ochre in the mix, offset by more neutral tones of nude, pink and blush. "I wasn't interested in launching just another make-up brand," says Isamaya Ffrench. " I wanted the line to be about self-expression, and about a new way of approaching make-up and colour, exploring a way of doing something a bit more conceptual.”
Designed as individual pieces, Gorham describes the make-up line as ‘objects of desire,’ which have been beautifully encased in packaging that mirrors abstract art. “I took reference from ancient objects and relics, things that I found to be extremely modern and objects that were hard to determine if they were designed yesterday or 3000 years ago,” says Ben Gorham. “There was something in my nostalgic-like approach to things, and Isamaya Ffrench’s, what I like to call ‘future memory theory’ to creating objects that truly felt unique and beautiful.”
From the eyeshadow compact in a golden oyster-like shell, to the sleek lipsticks (in matte, glitters and glosses) in curved metallic cases, every piece is made to sit prettily on the vanity table. And the scent? Of course Byredo made a make-up line laced with alluring aromas of violet and vanilla, traditional scents which complement the ultra-modern look and feel of the beauty line which launches on October 1.
