Karl Lagerfeld never looks back – his eye is firmly fixed on the future and in that same spirit, he took the Fendi girls into what will probably be the most copied beauty look of the moment. Think Spice Girls meets Sailor Moon. For spring/summer 17, Kaiser Karl introduced an unlikely source of inspiration; the cartoon character Vanellope von Schweetz, the spunky candy princess from Wreck-It Ralph.
Makeup artist, Peter Phillips took the inspiration and ran with it, creating glittery lips in shades of butter gold and sherbet pink while the skin was given a dewy glow with the application of minimal highlighter around the cheeks. Across eyelids, models had a slick straight dash of liner that created a rock star edge contrasting with twinkling lips. Hairstylist Sam Mcknight’s addition of bag studs attached to bobby-pinks were scattered across bouncy pigtails in shades of mint, peach and crème-brulee – all of which contributed to the manga-like element of this refreshing look. Our takeaway? Pat McGrath’s Lust 004 lipstick kit had already got us hooked on the glitter lip and Fendi’s spring show just gave us the go-ahead we needed.
