Learn How To Master The Max Mara Braid Now

Sep 01, 2024 | 2 min read

Don't wait until next summer to master this hairstyle and let's take you on a tour to learn how to add a fun and chic twist to your regular braid.

Max Mara creative designer Ian Griffiths looked to Greek mythology and the book The Silence of the Girls, set during the Trojan War, for inspiration for his Spring/Summer 2019 collection, which was all about Greek goddesses. "All I needed to embody this idea was an asymmetrical shoulder cut and a cross-body bag," Griffiths said in describing the collection.

To complete the Greek look, celebrity hairstylist Sam McKnight opted for a sleek style and stayed away from over-the-top braids, creating a simple center braid and securing it at the back of the neck or at the front of the braid to then fall between the shoulders.

Reinventing the braid was never an easy task, but McKnight's choice of hair tie, seen here, added a sporty and modern twist to the look. Irina Shayk and Gigi Hadid both wore brown leather hair ties, while Kaia Gerber accessorized her braid with the same tie in black.

Here's how to master this look in five easy steps:

Step 1: Part your hair down the center, then create a low ponytail behind the neck and tie it with an elastic hair tie.

Step 2: Hide the rubber band by wrapping a strand of hair around it.

Step 3: Leave a small space and then start braiding and tie your hair at the bottom again with an elastic band.

Step 4: Wrap a leather rope around the top of the hair that is not braided and secure the rope with a knot.
