Emily Ratajkowski has brightened up our Instagram feeds with her freshly highlighted locks — making the dramatic switch from brunette to blonde. Known her signature chocolate brown waves, the model and actress has emerged from lockdown with a completely new look courtesy of her honey-hued hair paired with natural dark roots.
Following in the footsteps of supermodel Kaia Gerber, who was recently spotted with a platinum blonde bob, Ratajkowski becomes the latest A-lister to undergo a post-quarantine hair transformation. The look was created by luxury haircare brand Kérastase (who Ratajkowski represents as a spokesmodel) and took a full day to create — as blonde converts will understand, it’s no simple switch.
Before returning to the hair salon, with Ratajkowski’s sun-kissed strands in mind, it’s important to understand the hair care routine that follows a brunette to blonde changeover. As bleaching your hair can leave locks dry, damaged and brittle, and colour can quickly fade or change to an undesired yellow tint.
Kérastase shared Ratajkowski’s blonde hair care must-haves from their new Blond Absolu range: “Emily gets her fibre healing and anti-brass actions with Bain Ultra-Violet. Then she treats her hair with Cicaflash to restore sensitisd hair and prevent breakage. And last but not least, fortify and protect your hair fibre with Cicaplasme.”
But, of course, every blonde is different and therefore needs the best treatment catered to them — whether it’s Amika’s Bust Your Brass Cool Blonde Shampoo, Olaplex’s Hair Perfector No.3 or Rahua’s plant-based purple shampoo.
