From surfer girls to the front row, nothing says effortless cool like a head of soft beachy waves

Attending the Noon By Noor fashion presentation as part of New York Fashion Week, Lea Michele enlisted celebrity hairdresser and the inventor of The Beachwaver Co, Sarah Potempa, to create her beautiful beach waves.

Seated in the front row alongside Camilla Belle and Crystal Reed, Michele is known for her carefree curls and has been working with Potempa for over 13 years. For this event, the hair stylist used her famous Beachwaver (and a little trick that involves using hairspray on a brush) to achieve Michele’s look.

The Beachwaver is a special curling iron that spins to help you wind the hair around the barrel. It also turns in both directions, so you can decide which way you’d like each curl to go.

To get Michele’s look, we asked Potempa to share her steps for creating naturally beachy waves, which you can find below.

Step 1: Blow dry the hair smooth with a round brush.

Step: 2: Create a centre part, section hair with a clip and curl with a curling tong. Potempa used The Beachwaver Pro 1.25.

Step 3: Spray a flexible hairspray onto a brush such as the On Set Pro Brush and brush through curls for soft, beautiful beachy waves.
