Ashley Graham’s glistening smile

Make sure your party prep covers all areas of beauty. With the possibility of a camera or phone at every turn these days, it’s not just your skin you’ll want to be looking flawless.

As the extra indulgence that comes with this time of year can have a detrimental effect on your teeth, we decided to catch up with cosmetic dentist, Dr Apa, to find out the best ways to keep your teeth looking pristine over the party season.

The perfect grin backstage at Balmain

It is no secret that from New York to Dubai, and soon-to-be Los Angeles, Dr Apa is the go-to cosmetic dentist.

His client list is said to include Hollywood actresses and Dubai royalty, and in amongst the grids of white teeth that fill his Instagram feed, the occasional picture pops up of a famous face attending his New York clinic – think Victoria Secret Angels and international supermodels.

Apa believes it’s not about creating a signature smile but rather re-designing an individual’s smile to suit their face and enhance their appearance. The intention is to make sure you’re left with the most natural smile possible.

So, whether you’re looking for a full-set of porcelain veneers, or a simple five minute teeth-whitening fix, Dr Apa and Apa Beauty have all bases covered. Here, he gives us his top tips for a bright and beautiful smile…

Use shimmery tooth gloss
The Apa Tooth Gloss is designed to give your teeth a bright look thanks to antioxidants. It’s petroleum-based, and has things in it that are anti-cavity, and it also has a very strong delicious peppermint flavour, like gum or a mint – it’s meant to make everyone’s teeth shinier.

Keep your oral hygiene routine
Don’t let holiday parties get in the way of your oral hygiene. To maintain your smile, make sure you brush and floss daily. For me, electric toothbrushes are mandatory – you have to invest in one. I would also avoid certain foods that stain your teeth, such as coffee, tea, berries and cigarettes.

Schedule a cleaning
Of course, being a dentist, I highly advise regular cleanings and check-ups; this will remove any plaque, tartar and surface stains that may have built up. You should stop by for a cleaning every four months.

Whiten your smile
Teeth whitening is one of the least invasive cosmetic dental treatments and if done correctly, can have a dramatic impact on your smile. Whilst we often carry this out as part of an integrated plan with veneers you can just opt for the lightening treatment. We offer both take-home (The Apa White Duo) or in-house whitening.

Finally, invest in your smile
There are many ways to improve your smile, this includes orthodontia, bonding, bleaching or the gold standard, Porcelain Veneers. Veneers are a lifelong commitment, which doesn’t come cheap. We can complete a full mouth of veneers in 3 days, but this is aimed at clients who lead busy lives. Standard time is 2 weeks. Veneers are wafer-thin covers of ceramic that go over your teeth. They can mask any imperfections such as colour, shape, or even position. If designed properly, veneers can change your smile to create the desired effect of a ‘perfect’ look. They  last for 15-20 years.

Now, smile like you mean it.
