Designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli have proven themselves as modern day victors of romantic fashion in their couture show where early 20th century inspired Venetian allure was merged into sparkle laden transparent goddess gowns and trailed around by barefoot nymphs. The collection was inspired by Mariano Fortuny, the purveyor of rippling pleats and there by, freedom of movement. The hand-pleated assortment of evening gowns in heavily treated velvet in earthy hues boasted an intricate patchwork of brocades, hand-painted gold medallions and giant butterflies embroidered at the hem of a pristine white gown. The hand-made medusa headbands in antique gold lodged into our memories as the highlight of spring/summer haute couture.
